Starbucks Wants To Be Your Third Place
We (Hartville) have a new Starbucks in our town. It’s a good thing. Did you know that Starbucks wants to be your third place?
Third place is a sociology-inspired concept, referring to another place outside the home and work that people can gather and build a sense of community. The two usual social environments are home (“first place”) and the workplace (“second place”). Examples of third places would be environments such as churches, cafes, clubs, public libraries, or parks.
Notice that your chiropractor’s office is not listed as an example of a third place. Nor should it be. But some chiropractors act as if it should be, i.e. suggesting that you come back regularly each week as if going to the chiropractor is a place that you “gather and build a sense of community.” It’s not. Getting chiropractic care is about helping you feel better so that you can go gather and connect at a real third place!
We pride ourselves in providing all the care and only the care our patients need. This means our patients are discharged when they feel better and are stable. We call it “treat-and-release,” and our patients (as well as their medical doctors) appreciate our no-nonsense approach to chiropractic care. And it demonstrates that we don’t want to be your third place.
We do want to be the first place you think of when you want to get back faster. It’s not complicated; faster is better. When you’re having back pain, neck pain, or headaches, every day counts. Today’s chiropractic care can help you get back faster. And we can combine chiropractic care with massage and laser therapy, providing you even faster relief in fewer visits.
